Scotty Aitken

Starting out as a Ski Patroller and Avalanche Forecaster in Fernie, BC, Scott developed a respect for the destructive force that an avalanche possesses. It became his passion and his life’s calling. Since those early days, Scott has dedicated 32 years as an avalanche technician for the B.C. Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure’s Coast-Chilcotin Avalanche program north of Whistler. He was the man responsible for keeping our region’s roads safe from snow slides, including the renowned ski terrain above the notorious Duffey Lake Highway. You can bet he’s accumulated his share of stories over the years.

Scott now works and plays in the South Monashee’s when possible. He explores other mountain ranges these days while mentoring others including his 11 yr old son. He continues to serve as SAR Manager and former CARDA team member now taking instructions from his border collie.
